Te Aroha mountain is the kei of the spiritual waka of Hauraki. The ihu is Moehau which is located on the peninsula commonly referred to as The Coromandel.
Hauraki was settled by people off a Tohora and four waka: Matahourua of Kupe; Te Arawa and Tamatekapua; Mataatua waka and Rahiri; Tainui waka and Hotunui and Marutuahu.
Ngati Rahiri Tumutumu was named at the inception of the Hauraki Maori Trust Board in 1988.
